The Relationship between Qi and Blood
气与血的关系

Qi provides power for blood formation; qi moves blood; qi astringes blood and ensures the blood flowing inside the blood vessels; and nutrient qi can be transformed into blood and is the major material basis for blood formation. Clinically, qi disease often affects blood.

Blood provides nutrients for the generation and functional activities of qi. Therefore, blood deficiency can lead to qi deficiency, resulting in dual deficiency of qi and blood. Blood serves as the carrier of qi, and qi must attach the blood for it to exist. If there is any failure in the mutually coordinating relationship of qi and blood, disharmony of qi and blood occurs.

The Relationship between Qi and Body Fluids
气与津液的关系

The relationship between qi and body fluids are similar to those of qi and blood. The generation, distribution and discharge of body fluids depend on the upward, downward, inward and outward movement of qi as well as transforming, warming and controlling function of qi. However, qi depends on blood and body fluids for its existence.

The Relationship between Blood and Body Fluids
血与津液的关系

Both blood and body fluids are liquid substances. They have the same functions of moistening and nourishing, and both belong to yin compared with qi. Physiologically they can be transformed into each other and pathologically they affect each other.

Blood flows inside the vessels. When it diffuses out of the vessel, the blood becomes body fluids.

Fluid is a component of blood. When blood is in deficiency, body fluids move into the vessels to supplement the blood, and when body fluids are in deficiency, blood moves out of the vessels. When blood is deficient, body fluids will be in shortage, and vice versa.

The Relationship of Spirit with Qi, Blood and Body Fluids
神与气、血、津液的关系

On the one hand, spirit is transformed from essence and qi. Essence is the material basis for the formation of spirit, and spirit relies on essence, qi, blood, and body fluids for its existence. On the other hand, spirit controls life activities and, therefore, can control the formation of essence, qi, blood and body fluids.
