Causes neither internal nor external include dietary irregularities, overexertion and fatigue, traumatic injuries, and insect and animal bites.
Dietary Irregularities
饮食失宜
Eating more or less than one should, eating at irregular times or with irregular amounts can affect health, or cause disease. The human body needs different nutrients, and different nutrients exist in different food. Dietary predilection*, such as food type predilection, predilection of cold or hot, flavor predilection and liquor addiction, should be avoided in order to obtain different necessary nutrients. Intake of an unclean diet can result in many stomach and intestinal diseases.
Overexertion and Fatigue
劳倦
Overexertion and fatigue refer to an abnormal degree of fatigue brought about by excessive activity, the same as overstrain. Prolonged heavy physical labor, long and intensive physical training, and overtime work often impair the body. Long intensive mental work can also cause health problems. Sexual over-indulgence consumes the kidney essence, giving rise to aching in loins* and legs, and vertigo. The human body needs a suitable amount of physical movement every day in order to keep qi and blood flowing smoothly. Not participating in any work and physical exercise for a long time is likely to cause abnormal flows of qi and blood.
Traumatic Injuries
外伤
Traumatic injury is a physiological wound* caused by an external source. The body responds to traumatic injury both systemically* and locally. This response attempts to protect vital organs such as the liver, to allow further cell duplication*, and to heal the damage. Healing time depends on sex, age and severity of the injury.
Insect and Animal Bites
昆虫和动物咬伤
While each individual may experience symptoms differently, the following are the most common symptoms of poisonous snake bites: bloody wound discharge, fang marks in the skin and swelling at the site of the bite, severe localized pain, convulsions, fainting, dizziness, excessive sweating, fever, increased thirst, loss of muscle coordination*, nausea and vomiting.
Stings and bites from insects are common. They often result in redness and swelling in the injured area. Sometimes a sting can cause a life-threatening allergic reaction. The orders that contain the greatest numbers of species are beetles, butterflies and moths, ants, bees, wasps, and true flies.
